Every Grand Vintage is a reinvention, an affirmation of know-how, a free and personal interpretation by the Chef de Cave to reveal each vintage's unique character. Moà«t Grand Vintage 2009 is made with 50% of Pinot Noir, 36% of Chardonnay and 14% of Meunier. ON THE EYES Pale bright yellow, green reflections, a fine, persistent bead. ON THE NOSE Gentle and comforting, initial nuances of harvest notes and notes of callisson and vanilla gradually expand into darker, toastier notes of grilled sesame seeds, roasted almonds and mocha. The floral scent of roses and peonies rounds out an ensemble of radiance and delicacy. ON THE PALATE Notes of honey and mild spices, is underscored by a stimulating nuance of pink grapefruit. Every Grand Vintage is unique and original, the Cellar Master’s free, personal interpretation in service of revealing the exceptional personality of singular vintage years. Pinot Noir takes centre stage in 2009. The wine’s airy elegance provides the backbone of the vintage and the proportion of Pinot Noir has not been this high since 1996. The palate evokes joy, calling to mind a carnival with its twirling rides and children laughing over displays of sweets: marshmallows, hard candy, cotton candy and caramel apples. Then come notes of nutmeg, dried fig and black cherry. The Pinot Noir expresses itself with a light, airy elegance, a soft, gentle texture and a finish.
